Olmsted coined the word “parkway” to describe the ribbons of green connecting major park spaces. Bidwell Parkway, one of Olmsted’s signature landscapes, was named after Daniel Davidson Bidwell, a veteran of the Civil War and coordinator of Buffalo’s first police force.
