Just like our parks, we will endure

HEALTHY WISHES TO ALL AS WE FIND WAYS TO COPE IN THIS CHANGING ENVIRONMENT.

It is normal to question everything as we seek out calm, assurance, vision and strength.

By now the critical benefit of our parks is realized. Despite decisions to close certain amenities, the overall value of nature’s healing touch to calm and assure the body and soul, is irreplaceable. Your Olmsted parks are a symbol of vision and strength, and there is great comfort — even faith — in knowing they have seen us through tough times before, like the 1918 flu pandemic.

Created as a vital public health resource, your Olmsted Park System was designed and built between 1868 and 1899. Before any of our premier and renowned cultural institutions were erected, this cultural landscape was sculpted with vision, purpose and genius.

It is a connective system which has brought our community together for generations, and despite any scars or loss, the parks welcome us back time and again. They are a cornerstone of strength for our city. So good neighbors, over this holiday weekend and time of reflection, let’s continue to show patience and kindness in these days of uncertainty, and just like our parks we will endure.
