Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy Seeks Input From Park Users Through Online Survey

By December 4, 2018No Comments

INFORMATION GATHERED WILL SUPPORT THE PRIORITIZATION OF PARK PROJECTS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF BOPC’S NEXT FIVE YEAR PLAN

The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, the first nonprofit organization in the nation to both steward and maintain a historic urban park system, launched an online survey (www.bfloparks.org/5yearplan) today to engage with all park users and generate community feedback on priority projects or needs within the Olmsted Parks.

The Conservancy is currently undergoing a community engagement effort that will culminate in a five-year update to the Olmsted master plan, the Plan for the 21st Century, which will be presented to the public at the State of the Parks in May 2019.

“The entire Conservancy team is dedicated to providing the best possible park experience for everyone in Western New York,” said Stephanie Crockatt, Executive Director. “We are excited to launch this survey to gather community input for our park planning process.  With 150 historic years nearly behind us, the information shared will shape the future of our treasured Olmsted parks.  So I encourage everyone while you’re enjoying winter, to take a few moments reflecting on our greenspace and make your voice heard – and pass the link on.”

In addition to the survey, the Conservancy continues to hold community meetings in each of its park community districts: Delaware District, MLK, Jr. Park, South District, West District and Riverside Park. The third and final round of meetings will be held at the end of January. Notice for these meetings will be advertised through the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy website (www.bfloparks.org/5yearplan), social media, neighborhood newspapers and in partnership with City of Buffalo Common Councilmembers.

With support from the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and assistance from the University at Buffalo Regional Institute, the survey will run through January 2019.

About the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy
The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy is the first nonprofit organization in the nation to manage and operate an entire urban park system that consists of over 850 acres of beautifully designed parks, parkways and circles. The park system was designed by America’s first landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, 150 years ago and today, more than 2.5 million people use Buffalo’s historic, award-winning Olmsted Park System annually for recreation, relaxation and rejuvenation. Since 2004, basic maintenance of the parks has been greatly improved since the groundbreaking public/private agreement between the City of Buffalo, Erie County and The Buffalo Park Conservancy. The Conservancy is a membership-based, community organization whose mission is to promote, preserve, restore, enhance and maintain the Frederick Law Olmsted-designed landscape in the Greater Buffalo area.
