EVEN THOUGH I FEEL THAT THIS TIME OF YEAR IS A LOT CLOSER TO SPRING (SPRING IS ONE MONTH AWAY), IT’S STILL A GREAT TIME OF YEAR TO CELEBRATE THE BUFFALO JAPANESE GARDEN AND ITS GLORIOUS CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL.
Each winter, Friends of the Japanese Garden gather together to enjoy incredible food and drink, and to support one of the city’s most inspirational cultural treasures.
Money raised at the event is directed toward funding Cherry Blossom Festival initiatives that include maintenance, planting, restoration, and event coordination.
“The Cherry Blossom Festival spotlights Buffalo’s Japanese Garden by bringing visitors, attention and support to this Buffalo Gem,” said festival supporter Debi Johnson. “This year our major goal is to raise the funds to return the Torii Gate to the Japanese Garden. This gate was removed in 2014 when it deteriorated due to harsh weather. An improved weatherproof design is a part of the 2016 plan for maintaining integrity and beauty of the Japanese Garden.”
